Something for the Weekend: Inspiration & Fun Links!

Well, I actually had one really good day this past week and got a lot done – it felt great you guys … just to feel “normal” for one day! I stopped in and visited work (I’m a L&D nurse and have been on disability since April) and it was so nice to see my co-workers for a little bit and reconnect with my boss, who wants me to come back as soon as I’m able (and I do too!). I realized just how much being a nurse defined who I am as a person when I wasn’t able to do it anymore. I’m looking forward to getting healthy and going back to work.

Yesterday, I had surgery to have my implanted port placed. This will make it easier for me to get the IV fluids I get roughly five times a week. Less needle pokes and hopefully I’ll be able to do it at home myself in the future. I had mixed feelings about it, but I’m glad it’s done.

Today we’re traveling to Milwaukee to see the GI specialists at Froedert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Hopefully my new team of doctors will have some treatment ideas and I can start feeling better faster! Finger crossed for good news today.

So, what’s been inspiring me this week?

  • Read this great post on How to Get More Use out of Girls Clothes by Belle of OneAwesomeMomma. Lots of great tips and tricks for those of you with little girls out there!
  • Been stocking up on the most adorable little girl’s dresses in sizes 2T and girls 8 from eBay the past few weeks. I have a ton to choose from for photo shoots for the girls. Search here for 2T dresses and here for size 8 dresses. I have gotten some total steals, I tell you!
  • Going to throw together a summer essentials bag and keep it in the car. Check out this post on 10 Summer Bag Essentials Every Mom Needs by Honestly Mommy  – tons of great ideas, especially if you have a toddler in tow like I do.
  • I’m thinking of getting this Nikon 60mm Macro Lens for my hubby (who shoot with a Nikon) since he likes my Canon 60mm f/2.8 Macro so much and he’s been amazingly supportive since I got sick I wanted to do something nice for him to show him I appreciate all her does for me and the girls. He doesn’t read my blog, so I’m safe sharing 🙂
  • Read this great post From Crib to Toddler Bed and took down Ella’s crib last weekend and bought her a toddler bed (a $20 Craigslist score and it’s cherry wood and matches the rest of the decor in the girls room!). She had a rough first couple of night, but the last few have been much better! Kind of a sad last moment, taking down the crib for the final time … the place I brought all three of my children home from the hospital to sleep. Mama may have shed a few tears over that one.
  • Today is Freebie Friday over at the Tara Lesher Facebook Group! It’s every other week and tons of talented photographers offer full resolution images like background and elements for composite images for free … they’re an amazingly talented group of photographers and I’ve learned so much from them!
  • Enjoying following this Facebook group Sheboygan Rocks. I’m not sure who started it or why, but it’s such a fun community project – people take rocks they find, paint them with pretty pictures/inspirational sayings and then hide them in parks and other public areas throughout the city. When they’re found, the finders post pictures of them in the group … totally cool and it’s so neat to see kids get into it. Something I might do with Hannah this summer for something fun!

So, leave me a comment and let me know what’s been inspiring you this week … drop me a link or two to read while I recover from my port placement this weekend – thanks!

I found some inspiration this weekend from an art opening I had last night. Got to see some great friends and collectors and then also going to a pottery show to support an artist friend. Another great time to connect and see great 3-D works!

I pray that you get back to the pink of health. I have been so tired the last few weeks but I still make time to sit down and write. Writing is therapy. It helps get me through a rough day.

    • Jen

Thank you so much for your prayers – they are appreciated! Writing is great therapy, isn’t it. I’m so glad you are able to do that and finds it helps you. I’m just about to sit down and write a post about my experiences getting an implanted port … maybe someone reading it will feel a little less anxious if they’re faced with the same thing!
