Something for the Weekend – Inspiration & Fun Links!

Hey you guys – it’s Friday! I hope you all have great Memorial Day Weekend plans … I’m going to be spending the weekend resting up, again. Here’s a quick update and then on with the fun inspiration –

This past week has been rough. On Tuesday I had my gastric emptying scan which confirmed what I had suspected – severe gastroparesis, a condition in which your stomach muscles are essentially paralyzed and food doesn’t empty from your stomach in a normal fashion. To give you an idea, a small serving of eggs should pass out of your stomach in 90 minutes or so. I had 80 percent still in my stomach at 4 hours. It wasn’t the result I was hoping for, but at least it gives me some answers.

This condition is incurable and irreversible and is going to change how I live my life from here on out. I’ll be honest, it’s a lot to process and I’m struggling with it. I’ve had good days over the last five weeks, but a lot of bad one’s too. It’s a rare disease, but I have found a great support group on Facebook and they’ve been my lifeline this past week. I’ll be writing more about dealing with gastroparesis in the future.

I did manage to pick up my new camera and shoot some pictures of the kids this week around the house, which was fun and made me realize just how much I’ve missed shooting. I definitely have the time to sit and edit photos, it’s just a matter of having the energy to take them. I’m trying to make it a priority as it makes me feel good to do something creative and capture little moments of our family’s life to remember and cherish, even if right now is a struggle. Seeing my kid’s smiling little faces (like above) is all the motivation I need to keep pushing and working to feel better!

So, what’s caught my eye this week?

  • I purchased this great package of Lightroom presents and instructional videos from Lemon and Lace Studios. It includes more than 200 presets and 20 editing videos, all for the deeply discounted price of $19. It was too good to pass up! Right now she had her whole shop on sale for $20 … run and check it out!
  • I actually won a giveaway (this never happens!) and am the lucky recipient of a $300 rental credit toward camera lenses from LensRentals, a company I love. I’m super excited to get some new glass to try out on my new camera when I’m feeling better! If you’re looking to rent a lens for your camera, click this link to get $25 off your first rental:
  • I did a free trial of Tailwind scheduling for Pinterest with VA Janet Selose and was pleasantly impressed with my traffic and referral statistics over the last week, thanks to her help. If you’re interested, she’s offering a free service of 100 pin scheduling to the first 10 takers each week. You can sign up here if you’re interested – I highly recommend her!
  • I’ve been loving all the inspiration on this board Home Photography Studio Ideas!! – lots of good ideas as I try to plan my basement studio set up. I finally figured out a backdrop hanging solution, but it requires the use of power tools and I’m not quite up to that yet, but once I get it up, I’ll post a tutorial for those looking for a solution with low ceilings.
  • I’ve been scouring Craigslist for the perfect vintage chair for a photo prop, like this one, but haven’t had any luck finding what I’m looking for … but the search continues!
  • Read this great post from The Nostalgia Diaries about the importance of curiosity for ourselves and our children. It was a great reminder to never stop asking questions and to encourage your children to do the same.
  • I’ve been searching for the perfect new camera bag to stylishly haul all my gear to photo shoots. I’m loving the Evermore bag by House of Flynn (though it’s way out of my budget!), the Jo Totes Gracie bag in mint, and the Quinn bag in dark grey by Epiphanie.

What has inspired you this week? Drop me a comment and give me another dose of inspiration … I could use it! Or just tell me your weekend plans, that works too!

I’m so sorry to hear the news! Thoughts and prayers!

    • Jen

Thank you, it’s a lot to deal with, but I’m trying to stay positive! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  • Zoë

Gosh so sorry to hear about your condition but looks like your tackling it in an incredibly positive way. Sounds like your passion for photography is going to be a great release for you in the future.

Also, LOVED the chair by the way. Have you thought of looking on Etsy? They normally have tons of hand-made, vintage designs. Good luck! 💚

    • Jen

Thank you – trying to remain positive and you’re right, my photography helps a lot! I’ll look on Etsy … dying to get an amazing chair for the studio! Maybe there’s some local sellers as I imagine shipping would be a lot! Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!

      • Zoë

Please keep us updated on the chair as I’d love to see the one you choose 💚

        • Jen

Will do! There’s a couple contenders on Craigslist but I’d have the reupholster them … which could be fun!

        • Jen

Here’s the chair I bought today: Got it for less than $25, upholstery is perfect as is!

          • Zoë

That is stunning and such a bargain! I hope it comes with the cat too!

Looking forward to seeing the chair in your upcoming photos 💚

          • Jen

Ah, that’s my sneaky cat … he loves the chair already! 🙂 Just need to finish setting up the studio and then I’ll have some pics with it!

      • Jen

I’m considering these … I’d have to reupholster them, but the price is great! https://sheboygan.craigslist.org/fuo/6052292497.html

        • Zoë

They look fantastic! Would you go for the mustard colour like in the previous one? Do you have to be careful about which colour will be good for certain skin tones? xx

          • Jen

Yes, I love the mustard … good gender neutral color and it would go well with other furniture in our house since they’d probably be put to use elsewhere when not needed in the studio … though I kinda wanna make one bright pink and paint the wood white (I know hubby would never go for that!).

I hope you feel better ASAP!! I hate that you’re going through such an ordeal but I am grateful that you’ve shared some great ideas. I will definitely be checking out the Pinterest board and I may even have to hope on over to Craigslist myself.

    • Jen

Thank you! It always helps to have fun inspiration to make you feel better… 🙂 Hope you find a treasure awaiting you on Craigslist!

I’m so glad you’ve found a support system – tough news but I’m sure you’ll handle it with strength and grace! Thanks for the feature, too 🙂

    • Jen

Thank you, I think a support system is crucial! You’re welcome too – it is a great article!

  • Clair

I can’t imagine finding out having something incurable. I love how you are looking for all the positivity through it all ❤ Thanks for all the ideas!

    • Jen

Thank you … I think I’m hovering somewhere around denial/anger right now about the whole thing … but trying to stay positive! Finding inspiration helps take my mind off of it and I love sharing it with all of you guys! Hope you have a great weekend!

  • Vicki @ Babies to Bookworms

I’m so sorry for your news. So glad to hear you already found support. Community can be so helpful.

    • Jen

Thank you – it really is! Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  • Amanda

Oh, how fun that you won something! I never win giveaways either. ☺️ Sounds like a great list of things you’re loving!

    • Jen

I know, I was shocked – things like winning contests never happen to me! Hope you have a lovely weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

  • blossawe

I am sorry, it’s a great deal to accept something like that and move on. When I was diagnosed by hypothyroidism, I got through all stages and finally made peace with it. Blogging, sketching, reading, movies and coding is what gets me through. I hope you keep finding your inspirations and rock it!

    • Jen

Thank you so much! I kinda knew the hypothryroidism diagnosis was coming as everyone in my family has that … it’s the GI one that really sidetracked me. I’m going to keep on doing what I do and get through it! Thanks so much for stopping by – have a great weekend!

  • Gabriela Goldberg

Oh dear =( I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope you end up finding a comfortable way of living with this xo

    • Jen

Thank you! Taking it one day at a time! Hope you have a great weekend – thanks for stopping by!

  • Jessica

Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I’m so glad that you found a great support group on FB. I know what it’s like to get news that is life-altering. Thoughts and prayers coming your way.

    • Jen

Thank you so much! I appreciate you stopping by and hope you’re having a great weekend!

  • Stephanie Lowry

Sending you love! Support groups are amazing for things like that! Nothing like a community of people going through the same thing. Good luck hun.
