Something for the Weekend: Inspiration & Fun Links!

This week I kind of fell off my 365 Project as I worked a lot and am finding it hard to take pictures with enough variety in the cold, dark Wisconsin winters. I think I’m going to move toward the 52 Week project instead, where you shoot throughout the week and choose one image each week that is your best. The one above is my favorite from this week. I love the perspective, the curiosity and the details of Ella’s little lashes under her hair!

I’m so excited to have a weekend off after having worked the last three weekends in a row! I think we’re going to take the kids to Discovery World in Milwaukee on Saturday and buy a family membership for the next year. I can’t wait to take pictures there, especially in the aquarium! Every year our family picks one place in Milwaukee to get a membership and enjoy throughout the year together and it’s an awesome way to have some fun family time.

I’ve kept myself busy with all this great inspiration I found online this week during some slow time at work and home:

  • I saw this touching octopus video here – this little creature was rescued by a family vacationing on a Red Sea beach and came back the following day to thank them, spending more than an hour swimming next to them and touching them over and over … really made me stop to think about animal’s ability to feel what we consider to be a human emotion – even in creatures as small and simple as this.
  • I recently finished up this amazing Creative Live class – Family Photography: Creating a Successful Business with Kirsten Lewis, who is an amazing, world renowned family documentary photographer. It was a long class and I watched it over a few weeks but I feel like I learned so much I can incorporate into my photography for both client and personal work.
  • If you’re looking for some free editing resources, this Youtube channel has some excellent videos on everything from brightening an image, to removing acne and smoothing newborn skin. I’m going to dig into it when I have a little more time.
  • I signed up at the Daily Om for the class A Year to Clear What’s Holding You Back, aimed to get rid of clutter (physical, emotional, spiritual). It’s done by Stephanie Bennet Voght and what I like about this course is that it’s an email a day for 365 days … little encouragement to organize your life and reduce stress. I have a lot of things around the house I’ve been tidying up and am hoping this will give me a little extra encouragement. The class is a pay-what-you-want deal, so I paid $10 for my daily dose of inspiration and encouragement!
  • These are my new favorite jeans: Silver Jeans Aiko Mid Baby BOOT – they are perfect: Not too tight, not too loose, slim legs … I’m living in them now that I’m trying to not dress like a homeless person and wear clothes that are actually flattering!
  • Got a spare minute and want to try your luck at winning a top of the line DSLR camera? Throw your name in over at here. (This might be the only way I can afford my dream camera!)
  • Do you have a ton of family photos that you need to put into a photo book (I know I do!)? Photobook America is offering a free 6×6 photobook thru the end of the month with coupon code FORYOU. Check the deal out here.

What has inspired you this week? Drop me a comment and let me know – I love hearing from you and finding new things to get excited about!
