Something for the Weekend: Inspiration and Fun Links!

I wish I could tell you guys this week was better, but it hasn’t been. Hours after hitting “publish” on last week’s Something for the Weekend, I called my mom and asked her to drive the two hours up to my house and take me back to the ER with unretractable abdominal pain. Despite lots of rest last week, it hadn’t gotten much better. I’d been unable to eat anything for going on two weeks and I was so weak I couldn’t even take care of myself or the kids. My husband had to go out of town to get our rental property ready for the season and I knew there was no way I could take care of the kids for the weekend by myself, so it was mom to the rescue (she’s amazing, btw!).

A second CT didn’t show any definitive cause for my abdominal pain, which had now settled over my left upper quadrant. The ER doctor gave me more fluids and pain meds and started me on a proton pump inhibitor, thinking it was an ulcer and referred me to the GI specialist. I saw him on Monday and he gave me more IV fluids and nausea medication, more pain medication and scheduled me for an endoscopy yesterday.

The scope yesterday showed a healthy looking tissue and stomach but he took biopsies to rule out H. pylori infection and gluten allergy. He wants to me to have some nuclear med studies -a HITA scan of my gallbladder and a gastric emptying study – which insurance won’t cover until I’ve had an ultrasound of my liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Of course, I can’t get in for that until next Friday. Despite not being able to eat for the last three weeks, my labs aren’t bad enough yet and my pain is controlled on medication, so insurance will not cover hospitalization at this point. I’m having to do this all as an outpatient, which is very frustrating and takes forever.

Through all of this, I also learned that I have hypothyroidism (likely Hashimoto’s, like my sister) and am severely vitamin D deficient, so I started medication this week for both of those and we’ll re-check my lab work in 8 weeks to see if the treatments are helping.

I’ve been out of work on FMLA/short-term disability for the last three weeks and I miss all my co-workers and my job. I miss taking care of my kids, cleaning the house, taking pictures, eating real food and just generally feeling “normal.”

So, this week was another week of surfing the net from my bed… here’s what caught my eye for those of you who made it through all that above (not a lot of stuff as I’ve been sleeping about 20 hours a day lately):

Well, I’ll be spending the weekend resting up. Some of my co-workers are bringing over dinner a couple nights this week, which is much appreciated and a huge help. This weekend is Mother’s Day and all I asked for was my husband to get some nice pictures of the kids and I together, so I’m hoping I feel up to Sunday!

Drop me a comment and let me know what inspired you this weekend? What are your plans for the weekend?

Girl, I’m SO sorry that you’re having these issues and out of work! 🙁 Oddly enough, I’m having the same issues! My doc thought for SURE I was going to test positive for H Pylori, but I didn’t. Not pancreatitis either. Sooo they’re doing an ultrasound for gallbladder. Luckily they can get me in tomorrow. 🙁 Hang in there.xo

I really hope you feel better soon. Your positive attitude comes through your words although I know you are probably feeling miserable. Shortening my cleaning time sounds amazing, so I am going to check that out! I have been so inspired by all of the Mother’s Day posts lately. Every one is so different and I love learning from other moms. I am also inspired by all the pictures of spring flowers. I need to learn how to take these kinds of pictures! Best wishes towards feeling better very soon.

    • Jen

I’m so, so sorry that you are not well, Jen. This weekend was a nice weekend of simple celebrations. I was sad that my husband couldn’t be a part of it (bc of his work schedule), but th;is morning he help my kiddos perform a song for me that they wrote for Mother’s Day. He accompanied them on the ukulele. 🙂

    • Jen

Thank you – today was a good day so I’m hopeful there are more to follow! I’m sorry your husband couldn’t be a part of your celebration, but the song sounds absolutely sweet! What an adorable family you have!
