Something for the Weekend: Inspiration & Fun Links!

Well, we made it thru another week! I’ve been battling a cold, which with my already-less-than-ideal immune system has meant for some no-so-fun times the past seven days but I’m managing. I’m super happy to report I’m still on track for my 365 Project and it’s getting to be second nature to pick up the camera and have it with me at all times. I’m really looking forward to warmer weather and outdoor shots come spring time. I feel like there are only so many indoor shots I can take … areas of the house that have good light and the like. Love this outtake from Wednesday!

Ella has definitely been testing my patience this week! Mama’s … why does it seem your child skips right over those “terrible two’s” and becomes a “three-nager” overnight? Ella is 33 months old and I swear, we hit that “three-nager” full force yesterday … screaming “NO…” and “I don’t want to…” to absolutely everything I suggested. She’s a strong willed child, probably more so than my other two, and I’m thinking the next year is going to be a struggle. For now, I’m just going to hope it was a bad week! I don’t know that I’ve got it in me to do this for a whole year, lol.

This weekend was supposed to be my weekend off, but we are very short staffed at work and that means I ended up working three weekends in a row, which is a bummer as I have Isaac this weekend and won’t get to spend much quality time with him. For the most part, work has been amazing about letting me work every other weekend so that it doesn’t interfere with my time with him (the other girls work every third weekend), and for that I’m very grateful.

So, what’s inspired me this weekend?

  • Received this amazing video editing tutorial from my husband for Christmas that I’ve started to sit thru, Kelsey Freeman’s Maternity on the Creek. I love this photographer (her work is amazing!) and her editing style so I’m looking forward to learning more about how to achieve a similar look.
  • Very inspired by this 26-year-old dying woman’s letter on Facebook that was shared after she died earlier this month. So much of what she writes is true … facing the possibility of death myself last year, I agree with absolutely everything she wrote about what is important in life and how to make your life one you will look back at and smile when you’re at the end yourself.

“That’s the thing about life; It is fragile, precious and unpredictable and each day is a gift, not a given right.” – Holly  Butcher

  • Ordered some more of these black wire storage cubes for the girl’s closet so I can get a grip on their clothes. Love them for the price, $16, and flexibility (they’re great for use in the garage, craft room, kids bedrooms, closets…). They have a tendency to come apart in the girl’s room since they’re a little rough on them, so I added some black zip ties to my order and that should do the trick!
  • Splurged on something just for me … now if you know me, you know I’m about as far from a girly-girl as you can get. I own one handbag I’ve used for the last few years and it’s very practical. I’ve never seen the point in owning a number of them when one will do the trick. That is … until I was browsing on ThredUp last week and saw this gorgeous leather Coach handbag that I just HAD to have. Now, that never happens … so I thought about it for a day or two and finally decided to treat myself to it after I found a 40% off coupon code to make it a little more affordable! Now I’m eagerly awaiting the mail each day and trying to figure out how this latest obsession fits with my totally tomboy idea of myself! If you want to check out what treats ThredUp has, here’s a link for $10 off your first order!
  • This year, one of my intentions is to put a little more effort into caring what I look like. I’ve gone thru my clothes – which consist of t-shirts, over sized Under Armour sweatshirts, baggy blue jeans and Uggs – and pulled out what doesn’t fit or what I don’t like/wear and started replacing them with new, classic pieces like Gap sweaters, Ann Taylor LOFT tees, and J. Crew cords. I splurged and bought all new underwear and bras from Aerie, considering I couldn’t remember the last time I did that. And you know what? It does feel good to care a little more. I spend so much of my time caring what the kids look like that I’d kind of let myself slip thru the cracks as I’m sure mom’s everywhere have!
  • I’m finding it sorta difficult to get great glass sphere pictures with my new ball, so reading a lot of how to make it work. This is a good article to give you a starting point if you’re going to try it!
