Something for the Weekend: Inspiration & Fun Links

Well, as promised, I’m back with my Something for the Weekend posts! And you know what guys … I forgot just how much I love making these for you. I come across so many inspiring things during the week, I just hope that something I share with you sparks something in you as it does me!

This week we returned home from the cabin and I set into deep cleaning the house, methodically checking things off my to-do list. I’m happy to say I made a good dent and it feels really good! I purged the master bedroom and my office area, taking out eight bags of garbage, a huge bag of stuff to donate and organized our closets. I treated myself to a vase full of beautiful fresh cut flowers to brighten the refreshed space and it is SO nice to wake up and not be overwhelmed with clutter when I open my eyes. So good for the soul.

I also tackled the bathroom and spent three hours scrubbing the bathtub and surround (did you know a paste of baking soda and bleach applied to mildewed cauking and covered with saran wrap for about 20 minutes makes those stains disappear?). My main motivation for this, besides the fact that it needed to be done, was that I wanted to take some photos of the girls in the tub and didn’t want to have to photoshop out the dirt, lol! Look for my 365 Project: Week One recap next week and you can see for yourself just how amazing those three hours of scrubbing made the tub look!

My email list has grown by leaps and bounds over the last six months and I’m working on a newsletter this week that will catch you all up on what’s been going on during my blogging absence, so check your inboxes next week!

I’m going to be working four 12-hour shifts the next four days, but here’s a look at what inspired me this week:

  • I’m head over heals in love with this motherhood photography session: Gabi & Brooke – A Denver Motherhood Session by photographer Keziah Kelsey. So raw and emotional and beautifully executed photographs … this absolutely moves me to do something similar with my youngest before she gets much bigger. Mamas, you know how difficult it is to get a minute alone in the bathroom with your toddler at home? Kelsey captures the down and dirty of how this momma manages the seemingly impossible task! (Go check it out – now!).
  • The coffee table book Amazing Moms is available for pre-order! I’m one of 115 lucky moms to be featured in this book along with my photography and I’m super excited to see it in print after working with the author over the last 18 months!
  • I purchased this fun glass sphere to use in photographs … I’ve seen some amazing shots using this and wanted to give it a try … and at under $15 I figured I couldn’t go wrong!
  • After my vacuum cleaner met an untimely death due to excessive dog hair from our 1-year-old (supposedly non-sheding) Goldendoodle, I bought this new one designed to handle pet hair. Not the most fun thing to spend money on, but I cannot wait to use it and see what the old one had been missing!
  • Hannah has been complaining that she’s cold at night, so I treated her to this twin-sized heated blanket.
  • I really enjoyed this Creative Live class “Building your photography business for under $3,000” which was on sale last week. Even though I’ve already jumped into business with both feet, I took tons of notes and was able to write a business plan and marketing plan at the end of it which was hugely helpful!
  • I’m debating joining The Narrative Society which offers educational classes for lifestyle photographers. I think it would be really helpful for the 365 project I’m working on and for future client work. It’s only $20/mo., which seems very affordable!
  • I’ve been enjoying watching so many Instagram stories, packed full of inspiration … everything from photo sessions to fashion and makeup tips … yet I had no idea how to make one. Thankfully, this article walked me thru it and I’m going to try my hand at my first one next week! I’ve never quite gotten on the Snapchat bandwagon, so this looks like a fun alternative!

So, what has inspired you this week? Drop me a comment and let me know – I love hearing from you!
