Something for the Weekend: Inspiration & Fun Links!

This week was a kinda crazy one … my daycare provider was on vacation, so I had all the kids by myself all week long. Ella has gone to daycare during the day each week since I got sick in April because I was just too weak to care for her. Now that I’m feeling better, I have a feeling she’ll be going less often. But man, did I forget just how hard it is to get anything done with a two-year-old running around! It took me a whole day to lay about 20 pieces of vinyl flooring in the studio because of my little “helper.” So, rather than get frustrated, I abandoned that project until her nap time, pulled the camera out and just snapped away … pictures of her being her sweet and sassy little self!

I also returned to work this week for my first four-hour shift and it was probably the best return I could have asked for to ease back into things … we were completely empty! I had plenty of time to catch up on all my education that had piled up the last four months I was off and get all kinds of technical details ironed out – like being able to log back on to all the computer programs we use – so now I’m all set for when we do have patients. I also took my CPR refresher class this week and am re-certified for another two years so it’s nice to have that out of the way.

I’ve also been doing some mechanical research online this week. Took my Lexus in to the mechanic a few weeks ago for what I suspected was a rear seal leak, which is a $2,100 job and not one you can do yourself as you have to remove the entire engine to get to it. They de-greased the engine, put dye in the oil, had me drive 1,000 miles with it and then bring it back in and they use a black light to pinpoint the source of the leak. I brought it back in Monday and thankfully, it turns out it’s only the left front valve cover and gasket, which is a $140 part and something I’m handy enough I can replace myself. So, I ordered the part and I’m just waiting for it to come in before getting my hands dirty!

This weekend I’m not sure what we’re doing … I was thinking of heading up to the fair in the county north of ours since we’ll be up at our cabin next weekend and will miss our local county fair. I have a bunch of photography I’d like to get at the fair and I’m sure the kids would love the rides!

So, what’s been inspiring me this week? What’s caught my eye? Let’s look:

  • Loved this post by CoreyNicole of The Nostalgia Diaries about the Preservation and Protection of Beauty in our lives. A gentle reminder to appreciate the everyday beauty that surrounds us.
  • Planning way ahead for the wedding I’m shooting next spring and looking at dual camera vests/holsters since I’ll be carrying two camera bodies with lenses attached. Thinking about this one and trying to figure out if it’s worth spending the crazy amount of money on this one.
  • With back-t0-school just around the corner, this post on How to Save on Children’s Clothing by Morning Motivated Mom was very timely and informative! I just joined Thread Up (they give you $10 credit to start!) and have been having fun browsing all the available items for myself. I also cleaned out the girl’s room from top to bottom and was able to see exactly what they have in way of clothing so now I have a list of things I need to fill in each of their wardrobes.
  • I’ve been trying for weeks to create a pop-up on my Jen Theodore Photography website and having tons of issues getting it to work and my frustration is mounting. This tutorial is probably what I’m going to need to do to get it working, but it involves editing the root directory of my website from the back end, which is rather nerve wracking to me! I’m hoping to tackle it this weekend!
  • Read this great article (and others on this site) on SEO for photographers … working on editing all my images on my photography site to include key words and scheduling them for pins on Pinterest and Instagram posts via Tailwind.
  • Check out this article on 10 Photography Projects for Kids by Click it up a Notch. Hannah got her first DSLR earlier this summer and I need to spend some time with her teaching her how to use it! Also check out 10 Beginning Photography Tips for Children and the ABCs of Photography for Kids.
  • Been pouring over these 40 Tutorials for Lightroom, trying to figure it all out. I’m proficient in editing in Photoshop, but really want to move into working mostly in Lightroom in the future.

So, there you have it! What’s inspired you/caught your eye this week? Drop me a comment and let me know or just tell me what you’re up to for the weekend!
