Something for the Weekend: Inspiration & Fun Links!

Finally … I got all the stuff in the studio! Here’s a snapshot of my 121-square-foot space I’ve carved out of the corner of our basement. I’ll write an updated studio post in the near future with links to everything I used to maximize my space (and my creative backdrop hanging idea!).

This week has been a rather slow one … Hannah had Vacation Bible School in the mornings and Isaac and I just kinda hung around home while Ella was at daycare. I saw pain management this week and we have a new plan to keep my abdominal pain under control that doesn’t require narcotics, therefore I’m able to return to work very part-time on the 21st – so I’m excited! I’ve also been working on my daily photo prompts for August Break. I’ll post the first week of photos on Tuesday.

I decided last Sunday that I absolutely needed the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II lens after I couldn’t bear to part with the one I rented, so I bit the bullet and financed that baby … now I just have to figure out how to pay it off in the next six months! I have four upcoming photo sessions, so that should help quite a bit! And after that huge purchase, I talked to my State Farm insurance agent and got all of mine and my husband’s camera gear covered on a separate policy. I also added my MacBook Pro to the rider since I use it for all my photo work. That’s a lot of peace of mind for $20/mo.

This weekend, I’m headed to my parent’s so they can help watch Ella for me since I don’t have daycare on Friday and my husband is going to a John Mellencamp concert Friday night. I’m just not physically ready to handle 12+ hours of a toddler at this stage in the game, or a concert if we got a sitter. So, the kids and I made some playlists and packed the car and are leaving this morning for the two hour drive there. It’s just going to be a quick trip – we’re coming back tomorrow, but it’ll be nice to see everyone for a little while!

So, what’s inspired me this week?

  • Creative Market has a fun font and a beautiful pack of 12 floral photos in their weekly freebies (here). I snatched those up!
  • I ordered a fun me-sized tulle skirt in brown that looks a lot like this one … it will be fun for photos, though I don’t see wearing it out in public!
  • I ordered some 4×6-inch double sided photography rack cards from Overnight Prints, which currently has a huge sale going on … if you happen to be looking for advertising materials or business cards (though I still prefer Moo for my business cards!).
  • Loved this post about Playground Obstacle Courses for tired mama’s from Megan of The Many Little Joys. Sounds right up my alley lately!
  • I returned my rented lens to Lens Rentals, but they’re offering 20% off all rental arriving before August 11 with the coupon code HOTDEAL.
  • My hubby bought this key rack and promptly mounted it to the wall in the entryway after our toddler made off with not one – but two! – sets of his car keys (we’re still looking for them, btw! My spare Lexus key is somewhere in the basement…).
  • Loving this great informational post about Living with Gastroparesis from Rachel, who has the same diagnosis I have … see where her journey has led her four years after her diagnosis.
  • Really digging this great Facebook group: Awakening | Inspiration and Support for Professional Photographers. Tons of resources in there!
  • Enjoyed scoping out the venue where my step-sister will be getting married next spring. Mine and my husband’s gift to the couple is shooting their wedding and reception. My hubby Mike is going to be my second shooter. I’ve been working with the groom this week to get an idea of what we’re in for and I’m excited at the possibilities the location provides!
