Something for the Weekend: Inspiration & Fun Links!

This week I finally finished the basement studio. It was a lot of work and required rearranging a ton of stuff and moving a bunch of stuff back into storage, but it was worth it! I have all my props and backdrops and everything all in one area and it feels great and organized! There’s a few little finishing touches I’d like to do, but it’s pretty much there and it feels good. I can’t wait to start using it now.

This week I published the first in a new weekly series of DIY photo props, DIY Floral Crowns & Headpieces. Look for a new DIY tutorial every Monday – I have the next four all lined up and ready to go! It’s been fun making my own props and I look forward to sharing my techniques with you here on the blog each week.

I had a good week overall and ate my first food in months … without issue! So, I’m holding on to hope that this treatment is going to help long term. I know it’s going to take me a while to get back to where I need to be nutritionally and strength-wise once I’m able to eat again, but it’s a start and I’ll take it. I’m going to the clinic today to get labs drawn, so we’ll see where they’re at. I was starting to be pretty anemic last time I had them drawn nearly 6 weeks ago and I’m guessing that has only gotten worse, not better, since my nutrition has been pretty terrible since then.

If I have enough energy, I might make the trip to Oshkosh this weekend and try and take photographs at the EAA fly-in. Their big air show is on Saturday. It means wrangling Ella with me (Mike will be taking Hannah and probably Isaac separately so they can stay longer than I’ll want to) so there’s that to consider. I’m not quite sure I’m up for the 90 minute drive, pushing a stroller and lugging a camera bag with me across huge fields to get to the show… we’ll see. I’d love the opportunity to take photos, just not sure it’ll work this time, which is too bad, as I have the lovely 70-200mm 2.8 lens I rented this weekend! Maybe Ella and I will head to the beach and try and get some pictures in one of her cute dresses instead …

So, what’s been inspiring me this week? What’s caught my eye or my interest?

  • I purchased this shirt from Sun Frog Shirts … perfect for the photographer in your life! I don’t have any attire that reflects my love of the camera, so I totally rationalized the purchase of this great tee in black.
  • I sold a massive amount of my fabric stash on eBay to a woman doing charity work with foster kids. I gave her a really good deal because it felt like the right thing to do and now I have a nice chunk of change to add to my 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens fund!
  • I met a local photographer thru the huge photography Facebook group I belong to and we got to chatting. She needed a logo designed for her business, so I offered my services and whipped her up five different options for the low price of $15. It was fun and made me a little extra cash and helped her out in return!
  • If you haven’t already, head over to Uncork Your Dork and download this great 60-page free ebook on driving traffic to your website (click here to download). And sign up for her newsletters while you’re at it … they’re always packed with tons of great information – this week’s included 40 tips on blogging covering everything from social media to revamping old posts to drive traffic!
  • I made the half-hour drive to our nearest Hobby Lobby to pick up some finishing touches to add to my studio space, including this great motivational wooden wall piece that says “Choose Happy.” It’s a good daily reminder to choose happiness! Check out all their great wood wall decor (on sale for half off this week!) here. It was also a great opportunity to scope out some new shooting locations for an upcoming shoot I have in that city.
  • I joined the Wisconsin Photographers Facebook page – it’s been fun and inspiring seeing all the beautiful captures of our state and really makes me want to go out and shoot more!

So, what’s been inspiring you lately? What’s on the agenda for this weekend? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Your basement studio is absolutely fabulous! We’re in the process of doing ours and it’s quite the process! I’m definitely using yours as inspiration! 🙂

I love Hobby Lobby and am sad to hear that they are going out of business! I’m also having MAJOR camera envy and am wanting that lens!

I hadn’t heard they’re going out of business … that’s a bummer! It’s like my favorite store! I’m trying to figure out how I can afford that lens … I’m tempted to finance it (it would be $70/mo. for two years, yikes!) but I don’t have a car payment … so there is that 🙂 (Oh, how we can rationalize things, lol!). Have a great weekend!

Sounds like a busy but productive weekend! I didn’t realize you were a fellow Wisconsinite! 🙂

It was! Where are you located? I’m in Sheboygan, WI … a few blocks from Lake Michigan! Hope you had a great weekend too!

The studio is so pretty! And congrats on selling so much of your fabric to someone who really needed it!

Thank you – get to use the studio to shoot a 7-month-old in about 10 days … excited for that!
