365 Project: Week Two

I had to get a little creative this week for photos since it is the middle of January in Wisconsin and that doesn’t leave a lot of available light to shoot in outside and there are only so many shots of Ella in the bathtub that you want to see (or I want to shoot). So, I started packing my camera with me on errands …

Being a tourist in our own city: Blue Harbor Resort

Mike and I promised Hannah we’d take her to Blue Harbor Resort’s Breaker Bay Waterpark for her eighth birthday and had a total mom/dad fail on that as the months ticked by and we never went. So, last night, I decided that a family trip to the waterpark was in order (before Hannah turned nine in March!) and so tonight we packed up the kids …

Project 365: Week 1

Well, I managed to stick with my Project 365 for a whole week (yay me – I think this calls for celebration!). I made it a habit of taking my DSLR with me everywhere and the idea of taking photos of the kids inside my home motivated me to deep clean everything because, let’s face it, who wants to see my messy house? I know …

Kohler-Andrea’s Camper’s Halloween in Photos

More Halloween fun! On Saturday night, Mike and I took the girls to Kohler-Andrae State Park for their annual Camper’s Halloween. This is something of a tradition in our family and the girls look forward to it more than trick or treating on Halloween! Ella was a little apprehensive at first, but quickly warmed up when she saw you got candy from strangers! Here’s some …

Bookworm Gardens Trick or Treat: A Photo Essay

This year Mike and I tried something new with the girls – we headed over to Sheboygan’s lovely Bookworm Gardens for their annual trick or treat event, which is held the weekend prior to Halloween. It was so much fun to see the gardens all decorated with lights and everyone dressed in costumes. I’ll let the pictures tell the story…

The UP in pictures

Last weekend we had a chance to head up to our cabin, Mike, the girls and I (and the dog). We enjoyed unseasonably nice weather in the 70s for the end of October. We got to play on the water, enjoy the fall foliage and even take a day trip to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Here’s a roundup of our weekend in pictures!

DIY Photo Prop: Newborn Basket Filler AKA “Fluff”

For today's DIY photo prop I thought I'd teach you how to make newborn "fluff" - the beautifully colored material used to fill baskets and buckets in newborn photography. It's actually very easy to make it yourself and you can save a ton of money simply by investing a little bit of time and effort into creating your own.

August Break is just around the corner!

I look forward to August each year for many reasons (the kids go back to school!) and Susannah Conway's August Break is one of them! It starts Tuesday with a photo prompt each day of the month. It's goal is to get you out and shooting ... noticing and appreciating what is around you.

DIY Photo Prop: Floral Crowns and Headpieces

Here's another in my series of DIY photo props! I'm always on the lookout for gorgeous photography props I can use in photo shoots. Over the past six months or so, I've amassed quite the collection of headbands, hats, and a few floral crowns. The few floral crowns I have are okay, but they're nothing special. I decided it would be a fun project for Hannah, my 8-year-old, and I to purchase supplies and make our own deluxe floral crowns for my photography adventures.
