DIY Photo Prop: Newborn Basket Filler AKA “Fluff”

For today's DIY photo prop I thought I'd teach you how to make newborn "fluff" - the beautifully colored material used to fill baskets and buckets in newborn photography. It's actually very easy to make it yourself and you can save a ton of money simply by investing a little bit of time and effort into creating your own.

August Break is just around the corner!

I look forward to August each year for many reasons (the kids go back to school!) and Susannah Conway's August Break is one of them! It starts Tuesday with a photo prompt each day of the month. It's goal is to get you out and shooting ... noticing and appreciating what is around you.

DIY Photo Prop: Floral Crowns and Headpieces

Here's another in my series of DIY photo props! I'm always on the lookout for gorgeous photography props I can use in photo shoots. Over the past six months or so, I've amassed quite the collection of headbands, hats, and a few floral crowns. The few floral crowns I have are okay, but they're nothing special. I decided it would be a fun project for Hannah, my 8-year-old, and I to purchase supplies and make our own deluxe floral crowns for my photography adventures.

What’s in my (new) camera bag?

A review of the Epiphanie Clover bag and overview of my photography essentials - Jennadesigns

I’ve been on the hunt for a new camera bag for some time as my old Canon bag no longer fit all the gear I’ve aquired. I’d narrowed the list down to a few I liked that didn’t look overly masculine or scream “steal me” like some camera bags do. I wanted something feminine but not over the top girly. On the top of my …

Lens Review: Yongnuo 35mm f2 lens for Canon DSLRs

Lens Review: Yongnuo 35mm f2 lens for Canon DSLRs

Last week I picked up this great Yongnuo 35mm f2 lens for my Canon DSLR. It’s available on Amazon for only $90.98 so it was an easy choice to add to my collection. The Chinese-made lens came recommended by a number of professional photographers, including my friend Mary who uses it for all of her newborn shoots with amazing results, so I had no hesitations …

DIY: Photo backdrop stand, $10 and 10 minutes

I've seen a lot of tutorials on how to DIY your own backdrop stand out of PVC pipe, so I grabbed my trusty notebook and drew up a quick sketch of what I'd need. Because my space in the basement is limited, I decided to go with a stand that was 54-inches wide and just over 60-inches tall. This is the perfect height for (smaller) kids like I have.

I take a ton of pictures, not just of my children, but also for the blog. I’ve been in the process of setting up a home photography studio in the basement for the past few months. (My post here about how to set up a home studio on a budget has been hugely popular!). I had ordered a number of vinyl photography backdrops from China …

How to find Photos’ actual image files in Finder on a Mac

How to find Photos' actual image files in Finder on a Mac

Earlier this year, I organized and backed up all of my digital photos. It was a huge project but it felt so great to get it all done and caught up. Now, it’s a task that I do monthly. Check out my post here for my method of organizing and backing up digital images. My main computer is my MacBook Pro and I use OS …
