Bookworm Gardens Trick or Treat: A Photo Essay

This year Mike and I tried something new with the girls – we headed over to Sheboygan’s lovely Bookworm Gardens for their annual trick or treat event, which is held the weekend prior to Halloween. It was so much fun to see the gardens all decorated with lights and everyone dressed in costumes. I’ll let the pictures tell the story…

The UP in pictures

Last weekend we had a chance to head up to our cabin, Mike, the girls and I (and the dog). We enjoyed unseasonably nice weather in the 70s for the end of October. We got to play on the water, enjoy the fall foliage and even take a day trip to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Here’s a roundup of our weekend in pictures!

Meet Wally, our newest family addition

Meet Wally - our new family addition

Ever since we got Kenai, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a cat. Mike’s always been a dog person, and truthfully, while I like dogs, I’m just more of a cat person. I enjoy their personalities. And independence. The last few months, I’d been looking around at available cats in the area and last month fell in love with this adult male cat …

A girl and her crayons

Ella and I are both feeling a little under the weather … she’s getting over being sick last week and I’m suffering thru whatever it was she had that she no doubt gave to me. I was looking for something to entertain Ella for a few minutes and remembered the package of jumbo crayons I had purchased last week. So, out they came and Ella …

Camper’s Halloween at Kohler-Andrae State Park

Every year, since Hannah was small, we’ve gone to Kohler-Andrae’s Camper’s Halloween, which is a really cool experience for kids (and adults too). Campers come from far and wide and set up elaborate Halloween displays. Children can trick or treat at each camp site. We left early this year and it was packed by the time we got there. I think it gets bigger every …

A weekend of photos at the pumpkin farm

We took full advantage of the beautiful Wisconsin fall weather today and headed out to our local pumpkin farm, Bulitz’s in Kohler. They have a variety of activities for the kids, including a petting zoo, pony rides, hay rides, pumpkin picking and a bouncy house. We had debated going yesterday, but were glad we waited until this afternoon when the weather was much nicer, 60s …

The puppy checklist: What to get for your new furry friend

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser, Mars, Incorporated. All opinions are mine alone. #IAMSVisibleDifference #IAMSDog #CollectiveBias Kenai joined our family in late summer when he was 9 weeks old. Kenai is a Goldendoodle F1, which is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle. We chose that breed because they are known to be gentle with children …

Gibbsville Apple Orchard

Today we took a day trip to a lovely little apple orchard about 15 minutes from where we live. They were hosting their annual Fall Fest, which features live music, apple picking, tractor rides, apple slingshots and a bouncy house. We went last year and had a wonderful time. This time around Ella was a whole year older and able to actually run around which …

Our first day in the UP

I know I’ve been largely absent from this space for the past few weeks – it’s been crazy around these parts. We moved last weekend … four days of grueling manual labor. I learned I’m strong enough to carry a dryer up and down stairs, as well as sofas, dressers and other furniture. Our new home is perfect for us and I look forward to …

Snapshots from our trip to the Upper Pennisula

We were able to get away last week to our cabin up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in AuTrain, just Mike and girls and I. It was a really nice trip and we had lots of fun – everything from picking up fresh-caught whitefish in Munising to kayaking the river (Ella even went!) to rides on Tougher (the four-wheeler) and the girls meeting their …
