DIY Photo Prop: Newborn Basket Filler AKA “Fluff”

For today's DIY photo prop I thought I'd teach you how to make newborn "fluff" - the beautifully colored material used to fill baskets and buckets in newborn photography. It's actually very easy to make it yourself and you can save a ton of money simply by investing a little bit of time and effort into creating your own.

DIY Photo Prop: Floral Crowns and Headpieces

Here's another in my series of DIY photo props! I'm always on the lookout for gorgeous photography props I can use in photo shoots. Over the past six months or so, I've amassed quite the collection of headbands, hats, and a few floral crowns. The few floral crowns I have are okay, but they're nothing special. I decided it would be a fun project for Hannah, my 8-year-old, and I to purchase supplies and make our own deluxe floral crowns for my photography adventures.

Chasing away the bad dreams

Hannah has complained recently about having some bad dreams. Some she can tell me exactly what they were about, other times she just has a feeling it wasn’t a good one. I was feeling for her. Such a helpless feeling as I didn’t know how I could make it better. I thought about it for a while and decided I needed to make her …

New Coffee Mug

About seven years ago, I bought a coffee mug for my morning coffee. It is designed to be customized and came with a template to decorate the way you wanted. At the time, I used a scrapbook effect of pages torn from a fashion magazine – graphic pops of pink color and large letters, sketches of dresses. I’ve used this mug everyday for my coffee …

Small project for above the crib

I was at Hobby Lobby last night for a last minute Christmas gift and remembered that I’ve been wanting to do this for above Ella’s crib for some time now. I picked up four press board letter and paired it with some of my favorite scrapbook paper. I need to paint the edges of the letters but found that my acrylic paint seems to have …

Missing my sewing machine

So after a very frustrating afternoon trying to sew a small project on my machine, I finally threw in the towel and decided that it was time to take it back to the Pfaff dealer for a cleaning and some maintenance. In the three years I’ve had the machine, I’ve never been separated from it – read, in other words, it’s never been cleaned! – …

Washi tape love

I recently re-organized my craft supplies and changed up how I stored my washi tape, adding them to this large glass jar so that I could better see what I have to work with when making something creative that just calls out for some washi tape love! There are so many great ideas out there as far as what to use it for, but I’ve …

A special shelf for her treasures

A couple of months ago, I came across this organizer at a local thrift store for $1.99. I immediately saw the potential and snatched it up, planning to hang it on the wall in my daughter’s room as a place where she could keep all those little treasures she collects that seem to disappear because they’re so small. It was the perfect size for her …

Hannah’s Vintage Sheet Embroidery Hoop Wall

A couple of weeks ago, Hannah and I woke up one morning with nothing on our plate. I had decided not to take her to daycare because the weather outside was simply miserable – sleet and snow – and it made no sense to drive in it. Looking for something to do with her, I remembered the pile of wooden embroidery hoops I’d been saving …
